About Ramblers Family Walking Adventures

If your family already enjoys weekend country rambles or coastal walks - or if you've a joint spirit of adventure, a Ramblers Family Walking Adventure holiday will be perfect for you. Ramblers Family Walking Adventures is part of Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, and we've over 60 years' experience of leading walking holidays around the world.  So naturally we are experts at ensuring we, and our clients, travel responsibly and safely.  Our small groups have less impact on the environment and, by developing long term relationships with our destinations, we take care of both the places and the people we visit.

When can we go?

We've created these holidays just for families. They're available only during school holidays, so there's no need to worry about taking your children out of school. Whenever you travel, you know that you'll be paying the best price. In fact, our customers agree that we offer outstanding value.

What's included in the price?

Our ethos is to include as much as possible in your holiday price, so you need to pay very little locally. However, we also want your family to enjoy real flexibility while you're away - which may mean that you need a small amount of local currency for an additional bus fare or similar. Then, if you'd like your leader to change the start point of a day's hiking, or to organise a new activity, they'll have lots of options for you.

Wherever you go, you should need no more than the equivalent of £20 per person per week, but it does vary. In Oman and Andalucia, for example, all your costs are included upfront; while in Klosters and St Anton, our excellent deals on cable car, bus and train fares mean additional transport costs are very low. Check the individual holiday pages for more details - and do remember that our leaders are not allowed to accept commission on any activities.

What exactly will we get?

Each one of our family adventures is unique to its area, so you are always guaranteed a really authentic local experience. This also means that what's included will naturally vary between destinations. As a matter of course we include your flights, coach or train transport to your hotel (with the exception of the holiday to Hassness in the Lake District), half-board accommodation in a 3 or 4 star hotel (full-board in the case of Hassness in the Lake District and the Hotel Alcadima in Andalucia) and the full services of your first-aid trained hiking leader. But remember, whilst your leader is there to make sure that you and your family have a safe, enjoyable holiday, their role is not to look after your children - that's your responsibility. Please also note that in some three-bedded rooms, the third bed may be a temporary rather than a full-sized bed.

What else can we expect?

All the outdoors action of your day is bound to give you an appetite! On some of our holidays, your hotel will offer you dinner every night and perhaps a weekly barbecue; at others, we've selected great restaurants for you. Wherever we recommend there's a chance to try local dishes and where there is a set menu, you'll also find children's alternatives available. You'll then have plenty of opportunity to share a drink with your fellow hikers to discuss your day's action. However, all that fresh air and exercise in exciting new landscapes is sure to make everyone keen for a refreshing night's sleep. Most hotels offer family or twin rooms, so you'll soon be surrounded by the gentle sounds of contented slumber!

Unlike many tour operators, Ramblers Worldwide Holidays' profits, not needed for the wellbeing of our company, are channelled back into environmental conservation projects. In the UK the Trust supports The Ramblers' Association, Britain's biggest charity working to promote walking and the maintenance of our unique network of public paths.  The Trust also supports smaller UK charities that provide an outdoor experience for the disadvantaged, the disabled, and inner city children. 

Overseas, Ramblers Worldwide Holidays lends its support directly to local community projects in the places we visit, such as funding a skills workshop for young people in Romania, and supporting an orphanage in Sri Lanka housing children who were victims of the 2004 tsunami.

Calling all photographers!

We really appreciate the contribution of photography made by our customers, it adds insight, beauty and fun to our promotional work, and we would love you to contribute too.  We are particularly interested in receiving pictures that capture the essence of your family walking adventure - dramatic landscapes, meeting the locals, close up encounters with amazing birds and wildlife - but above all - you enjoying your holiday with your family.  If you would like to contribute please send your photos at as high a resolution as possible -  in the form of a jpeg - which can be sent by e-mail - or on CD.  Or you can, of course send us good quality prints.  Credits for imagery will be made whenever promotional space permits - usually online or in our brochures and for every picture we use we'll send you a £20 voucher against your next holiday.
